    The TN or Trade North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) visa is a temporary nonimmigrant work visa category in the U.S. for a citizen of Mexico or Canada (under the former NAFTA now known as the U.S.-Mexico-Canada (USMCA) agreement) with a job offer to work in the U.S. in certain specialty occupations with validity up to three years and renewable indefinitely.

    Eligibility Requirements

    1. Proof of Canadian or Mexican citizenship;

    2. A pre-arranged full-time or part-time job in the United States with a U.S. employer or a foreign employer with a U.S. entity;

    3. Qualifications to practice, such as a bachelor’s or master’s degree, in a job that falls within the list of NAFTA professions.

    A Canadian citizen, can either apply at a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) port of entry upon entry; or have his or her employer apply with Form I-129 to USCIS and then seek entry once approved at a U.S. port of entry.

    A Mexican citizen, can apply at a U.S. embassy or consulate with Form DS-160, attend an interview, receive a visa number, and then seek entry at a U.S. port of entry.
